debbie8.13Deborah Bier, PhD, has been a counselor and homecare agency director helping multi-generational families apply wellness approaches to managing chronic illness for 25 years. She is also a widely-published writer and speaker specializing in health, healing and food.  Dr. Bier holds a doctorate degree in therapeutic counseling, and educates both consumers and professionals alike.

In 2013, Dr. Bier developed and delivered a highly successful, comprehensive training program for caregivers for a major international homecare franchise based in the US. She is certified by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Office of Elder Affairs and the Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Association to train dementia caregivers and coach dementia families. She is a dementia columnist for PsychCentral.com, the Internet’s largest and oldest independent mental health social network.

One of her unique contributions to the field of dementia care comes from her being significantly cognitively impaired for several years due to a brain injury.  Now mostly recovered, she informs current best practices through her living in a neighborhood close to the dementia patient’s world.

The focus of her work has always been to help improve the wellbeing of those with chronic or significant physical and psychological illness, as well as the wellbeing within their families. This includes multi-disciplinary care management, complementary health care modalities, wellness coaching, and strength-based counseling.

She is also an artist, community activist, amateur historian, a passionate gardener.

Dr. Bier regrets that she is unable to give recommendations about individual problems via email or telephone to those who are not existing clients or students.
